Our strategic goals refer to:

  • To continue the investments in technological equipment to increase the production capacity, expand the product range and lower costs and energy consumption;

  • Increase of sales by expansion on the European market and strengthening of the internal market;

  • Major focus on five industries: automotive, energy transport, constructions, household industry and a market called the market of special cables that includes telecomunication cables, railway cables, enemailed cables, low voltage cables etc.;

Our history

The plant of conductors and wiring was settled in 1950 and shortly, it became the main supplier of conductors and wiring for the entire Romanian industry, as well as an important exporter for the markets in Europe. The transition period to the market economy led to dysfunctionalities in the company’s activity, up to financial difficulties, over numbered personnel, decreasing orders’ levels.

Below we invite you to go trough some of our achievements over time.

1950

The production of insulated electrical conductors started in Tg. Mures in the ‘50s in the local industrial workshops. As a result of a dynamic development, this activity was soon overtaken by the republican industry by setting up the Plant of Conductors Tg. Mures (FCTM), in 1960, with the headquarters on the current location of Romcab S.A.

1961-1969

Between 1961 and 1969, the plant focused on the production of cables and conductors insulated in plastic, with appropriate development and equipment for domestic deliveries, mainly for the of production of electrical wires for trucks and tractors manufactured by the plants in Brașov.

1969

In 1969, the plant got into joint venture with Electromures and the ”Fabrica de Masini de Calcul” [Plant of Cumputation Devices], the latter being in the process of setting up. Electromures became the only supplier of PVC insulated conductors and cords for the entire automotive manufacturing and energetic industries, as well as of electrical wires adequate for all types of cars produced in Romania.

1969-1985

Between 1969 and 1985, the departments of conductors and wires of Electromures also manufactured products for export; approximately 20- 30% of the total amount of goods were delivered to famous partners on the European, United States and Eastern markets, such as: KROMBERG & SCHUBERT Germany, SAELCO Germany, KWO Germany, UNITRA Poland, REMEE USA, FOREIGN TRADING UK, ZERO - WATT Italy and others.

1990

Year 1990 was a decisive moment in the activity of Electromures; the plant tried to adapt to the new market conditions. The three large production departments – computation devices, conductors- wires and electrical wires – coexisted for some time, but eventually, due to the lack of market in CAER member states, some of the departments lost their entire market (computation devices, mainly), thus leading to inner tensions and finally, leading to the division of Electromures into
- ROMCAB – main activity field: manufacturing of wires and conductors
- ELECTROMURES - main activity field: white goods production
- SUMEL - main activity field: production of electrical, audio goods, special machines and appliances

1990-1999

Between 1990 and 1999, the lack of a centralized planning activity and the unsound adaptation of Electromures and then Romcab to the conditions of market economy resulted in losing important activity fields for Romcab.

1999

In 1999, PANEURO COMPANY S.R.L. bought from F.P.S. (The State Private Fund) the majority stock package and initiated a vast restructuring program of the plant, established a modern management system that improved the production and set, among other goals, to regain the internal and external positions on the market.

2000-2006

Between 2000 and 2006, important investments in the amount of 13.5 billion RON were made. The plant was being re-launched, which determined the increase of the market quota. The ORACLE Applications software was implemented in the plant, both on production and on financial administration levels. A new range of products is manufactured – extensions and rewinder cords – and investments are made for satisfying clients’ needs on the automotive segment. The ISO TS 16949:2002 and ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management systems are successfully implemented.

2004

In 2004, the company is forced to take over the payment of some debts on behalf of other companies Paneuro Group and thus enters the legal reorganization procedure. This does not hinder it from maintaining and consolidating its strengths, while it prepares carefully for seizing new opportunities.

2007

In 2007, the most important contracts were signed in the automotive industry, both in the range of automotive conductors and wiring. The sales’ volume for export increased to 40% of the total turnover. The turnover reached 21.48 million USD.

2008

In 2008, Romcab maintained its increasing evolution characteristic to the past three years, reaching record levels in turnover of 23.04 million USD and an average number of 302 employees.

2009

The intense financial and economic crisis that began in 2008 continued in 2009 and 2010, significantly affecting practically every industrial field. Faced with less activity, Romcab S.A implemented in 2009 an ambitious improvement plan that enabled it, despite the significant sales drop, to achieve, at the end of the 1st semester 2010, a net income of 287,000 RON, as well as reduced expenses.

2010

As part of the improvement plan initiated in 2010, Romcab reviewed all available investment opportunities and succeeded in benefiting from the co-financing schemes offered by the EU funds.

2012

Year 2012 – We expanded our team with a group of cable specialists from Western Europe, who worked as necessary and important link of expertise and technology to the factories, input of know-how not just for the building of factories, but also to run them well and at high professionalism standards, a catalyst for the vast development process of the company.

2013

Year 2013 settled strong basis for the significant reduction of production and raw material costs: - The project "Efficiency measures of energy use for the production unit Targu Mures of ROMCAB SA” was started. The core objective is to increase production capacities, to achieve a reduction in final electricity and natural gases consumption and it will be achieved by replacing all outdated machines with new, more efficient ones. The total value of the project is 37 mil EUR (17 mil EUR state non-reimbursable aid with an intensity of 60% of the eligible costs and 20 mil EUR company’s contribution). Actually, the following equipment will be purchased: 13 machines for the drawing section, 50 machines for the conductor insulation and wiring section, 20 machines for the molding section, 16 machines for utilities.
